Bella Reidford says she and her teammates have been able to take plenty of positives from last week’s trip to Nottingham Forest that will be beneficial heading into this weekend and beyond.

Despite falling to a 99th-minute winner in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at the City Ground, Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk spoke with pride about her players’ performance.

Reidford replaced Amelia Hazard with 59 minutes on the clock and, because of extra time, was able to get an hour under her belt.

Reflecting on the night, she said: “We took a lot of confidence from the performance so we’re going into the second half of the season feeling good as a team.

“It was always going to be a hard game to come into with their ability levels, but we really held our own and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“It was obviously disappointing to concede so late on but there were lots of learnings to take into the next few games, like our togetherness as a team and communication.”

A trip to AFC Fylde in the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup is next on the agenda and, despite the Coasters being a fourth-tier team, we have played them once already this season.

That came in the determining round of the FA Women’s National League Cup back in August and Reidford netted the first of her two goals this season in a 7-0 victory that night.

She continued: “There were lots of goals when we played them last time!

“Hopefully we can build on that this time around, keep another clean sheet and play some good football.

“The fact that they’re now a league below us hasn’t had any kind of impact on our preparation – no matter the team we’re playing, we approach it with the same mindset.

“I remember the goal because I don’t score very many!

“It was a cut back from one of the wingers and balls into the box in the final third is something we’re always working on.

“I’ve transitioned from a defensive midfielder to a bit more of an 8 this season, so hopefully with that more goals and assists do come.”

Fylde also lives in Reidford’s memory for another reason, as she was given the captain’s armband when Jade Richards was withdrawn in the first half.

The 21-year-old was later given that responsibility for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup first round tie with Spennymoor Town too, and it’s an opportunity she describes as being ‘really positive’.

“I never expect to be given it, so it was a lovely surprise on the day,” she continued.

“Hopefully I can fulfil the needs of being a captain whenever the time comes and contribute more vocally, as well as on the pitch.”

Tickets for the match can be purchased from Kellamergh Park (PR4 1TN) on the day and are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for children, with those under 12 going free. Kick-off is 2pm.

It is important to note that the stadium is a cash only venue, both for tickets and refreshments.
