Good evening, welcome to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Watford.
It has only been a few days, but we are back on home turf following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Preston North End. What a fantastic result and performance to extend our run to ten league wins in a row. Congratulations to the team and to Nathan Tella for his first senior hat-trick, an incredible achievement.
I want to thank both the home and away fans for the respect they showed on the 20th minute of the game when Turf Moor rose to remember our colleague, Denise Mclaren. It was a hugely poignant and moving moment, that truly showed how much she will be missed.
At tonight’s game, we will be holding a minute’s silence and the players are wearing black armbands to help raise awareness and as a mark of respect to those who have tragically lost their lives in the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Disaster.
The whole world has been moved by the heart-breaking scenes witnessed after the earthquake hit both countries. In times of adversity, football stands together and at Burnley Football Club we are thinking of all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
The game against Preston North End, was our Veterans’ Foundation fixture, as, alongside Andy’s Man Club, both were selected by fans to be our chosen charities for the season.
The fixture saw us welcome representatives from the Veterans’ Foundation to Turf Moor, as we aimed to raise vital awareness and funds of their work across the region.
There are many veterans in the Lancashire community and the military charity supports thousands of individuals through life-changing and life-saving projects, including physical injuries, mental health, homelessness, and poverty - while also assisting with education opportunities and employment advice and training.
I’m pleased that the Club can work with charities in this way and show our support for such important causes.
In keeping with partnerships in the local community. Our relationship with Burnley College continues to go from strength to strength and I was honoured to speak at the college’s University Courses graduation ceremony recently. It was wonderful to see the students embark on their journeys into the world and I was privileged to share the special day with you all.
There’s lots of activity with the partnership and I’m looking forward to celebrating the College Clarets takeover day, when we face Huddersfield later this month.
Now, with kick-off fast approaching, best of luck to Vincent and the players.
Thank you as always for all your support and enjoy the game.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
