Good evening, welcome back to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Sunderland.
It has been a little while since we were last in action against Manchester City.
The Etihad is never an easy place to go to, however it was a great test for us - to come up against a Premier League side of such quality.
To echo Vincent’s words after the game, I’m proud of the players especially for the first half performance. It was a learning curve for us, and I know as a team we have taken a lot away from the fixture.
Also, as has been the case all season, I want to give special mention to all the fans who travelled in such great numbers to the Etihad. Despite the result, the backing from nearly 8,000 Clarets, from the first whistle until the last was fantastic. Myself, the players, Vincent, and his staff, we heard you and we thank you for the tremendous support.
The league resumes this week following the international break, which saw thirteen members of the squad represent their native countries across the globe. I take great pride in the number of players we have selected for international duty, it shows the wealth of talent in the team and it’s a real honour to play for your country.
There were several highlights, including Darko’s winning goal for North Macedonia against Malta and Lyle Foster netted two goals for South Africa in their Africa Cup of Nations Qualification game against Liberia in Johannesburg. A big well done to you all.
Staying on the theme of big games, Sunday is a significant day for our women’s team, with the squad travelling to Nottingham Forest Women in a first versus second in the table clash. The women’s team have enjoyed an incredible season so far, best of luck for Sunday afternoon, we are all behind you.
Finally, last week was the start of Ramadan. Ramadan Kareem from everybody at the Club, and I send my warmest blessings to those observing the holy month.
It’s been almost three weeks since our last game at Turf Moor, so it’s fantastic to be back on home turf with you all. Let’s get the weekend off to a positive start with three points tonight.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
