Good evening, welcome back to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Rotherham United.
What a result on Saturday afternoon against Reading. Congratulations to Vincent and the team for showing great resilience and character to come back from 1-0 down to take the three points on the day.
The roar that erupted when the goals went in was incredible, to see the passion in the crowd and hear the cheers, I think the celebrations at full-time showed just how much it means to the team and staff.
Tonight’s game is our third consecutive at home, with this busy fixture schedule we appreciate your support now more than ever before. I say it regularly, but you, the fans, play such a vital role and can make all the difference in this challenging league, so together let’s be in fine voice again this evening.
In other news, we were delighted to launch Forever Clarets last week, a past players initiative celebrating over 1,300 male players that have played for Burnley Football Club in our 140-year-old history. So many of these players have shaped our club and I’m sure several names from over the years will evoke great memories for many of you.
To launch the initiative, ‘Padiham Predator’ Andy Payton attended the Reading game and was interviewed at half-time. Andy’s prowess in front of goal reaped many benefits for the club, as he netted 81 goals in 176 league and cup appearances at Turf Moor.
Andy is just one of the players we will be celebrating through the initiative, and while further announcements will be made in the coming months, we look forward to the official Forever Clarets matchday which will take place when we play Sunderland at Turf Moor in April next year.
Finally, our women’s team have also been busy in front of goal of late. The team secured an excellent 5-1 win over Liverpool Feds in the first round of the FA Women’s National League Cup last weekend.
In addition to the cup, the side have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season and are unbeaten in the league. Well done to all the players and the coaching staff, I’m so pleased to see the hard work paying off on the pitch.
Back to tonight’s action and the stage is set for another great night of football under the lights. Thank you for joining us and I hope you all enjoy the game.
Up the Clarets!
