Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for our first home game of the new season, against Luton Town. A lot has changed since we were last together here in May and after a busy summer of activity, I’m pleased we can all reunite here at the stadium for this afternoon’s fixture.
I was delighted to see the positive result and performance at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s stadium last week, what a great start to the season. I may have been watching from afar but the support from the travelling Clarets both looked and sounded fantastic, and I want to thank you all for getting behind the team.
This brings me nicely to my next point, which is I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support leading up to the new campaign. We recently released the news that we had surpassed 14,000 in season ticket sales, a brilliant figure that reflects how many of you are with us for this exciting new era at Burnley FC. It’s pleasing to know that there will be a packed-out Turf Moor this afternoon, to welcome Vincent and all of the players including our new recruits and I for one can’t wait to hear the buzz in the stadium again. Talking of new recruits, as you will have most likely seen on our social media channels (through some rather creative reveal videos!), we’ve welcomed several new faces over the summer. It’s exciting to embark on this new campaign with our new squad members and I’m looking forward to watching the team develop under Vincent and his staff.
In recent news, I was happy to join Vincent at Burnley College last week, for a Q&A session with 25 media students. Our relationship with the college, through our College Clarets partnership, continues to go from strength to strength and I’m pleased that we can collaborate on innovative initiatives such as this together. The students asked very well thought out, interesting questions and I hope they found the session valuable as they progress with their studies. It was great to see the group waving their Burnley FC College Clarets scarves with pride!
Here at the Club, we have been vocal about encouraging an open dialogue between us and the supporters and we were pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our brand-new Forever Forward Forum recently. The forum aims to bring together a diverse range of Clarets supporters who will meet with Club representatives to share ideas and discuss topics that are important to fans. To ensure a wide representation we are looking for applications from representatives from families, 18-30 year olds, under 18’s, local businesses and disabled supporters to name a few. I’d encourage any interested parties to send in an application so together we can launch the forum and form a better understanding of issues that affect our supporter base.
Looking ahead to kick-off, best of luck to Vincent and the team this afternoon. Let’s show them everybody at Turf Moor is behind them.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
