Good afternoon and welcome to Turf Moor for today’s game against Coventry City.
What a result last weekend on the South Coast. I’m so proud of Vincent and the squad for the fantastic display at Bournemouth. In addition to continuing our FA Cup journey, what a performance to put in against a Premier League side. I’m sure all Clarets fans will agree, it was a joy to watch.
The draw for the next round of the competition took place earlier in the week and I’m very much looking forward to facing Ipswich Town later this month.
The trip to Bournemouth came quickly following the win away at Swansea City only a few days earlier. I want to say a big thank you to the supporters that travelled. It’s over 1,000 miles there and back for both trips, a phenomenal distance, your support and commitment has been fantastic.
Today’s game is our annual In Memoriam matchday. Many of you have sent in names of members of the Clarets family who have sadly passed away over the course of the past year, and we will be commemorating them this afternoon. We will be holding a minute silence before kick-off to mark a moment of reflection and the names will be listed on our big screen and in today’s programme.
On behalf of everybody at Burnley Football Club, we pass on our sincere condolences to all those who submitted names, for your loss.
This month, the January transfer window has seen us say goodbye to several of our men’s first team players. Matt Lowton has joined Huddersfield Town on a loan deal until the end of the season, Kevin Long has made a permanent switch to Birmingham City, Will Norris has departed on loan until end of the season and Ashley Westwood has joined Charlotte FC on a permanent deal.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Matt, Kevin, Will and Ashley for all their efforts during their time at the Club and wish them the best of luck for the future. On the pitch and off the pitch, the players have contributed such a great deal and we’re grateful for the memories they have given us.
On the topic of the FA Cup, the journey continues for our women’s team too. The squad secured a 1-0 win over Norwich City Women last weekend to reach the Fourth Round of the competition and will face Cardiff City Ladies next. Congratulations to the squad and coaching staff, what a fantastic achievement and best of luck for the next round.
Back to the Championship action and today’s game. It’s great to be back at home, let’s come together and show Vincent and the squad that we’re right behind them from the first whistle until the last.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
