Good afternoon, and welcome to Turf Moor for our final game of the season against Cardiff City.
We are delighted to be back on home turf for the last time this campaign and to lift the Championship trophy in front of a sold-out crowd.
Looking back on this season, I couldn’t have predicted that we would be here now. The Club has seen significant changes over the past year, from relegation, to welcoming Vincent, his coaching staff and 21 new players - it’s been quite a year. To experience the success we have, in such a short space of time, is testament to everybody’s hard work, passion and dedication.
I’ve taken great pride in our season, and I hope you agree, we’ve witnessed some incredible football! From last minute winners to securing the league title at Ewood Park, it’s been magical in so many ways and now we pull together to prepare for the Premier League.
I also want to take this opportunity to say thank you, to you the fans, for your magnificent support. Home and away, you’ve been there cheering us on and for that we are so grateful. Football is for the fans, and we appreciate you being with us every step of the way.
In addition to the recent celebrations, we released the exciting news that former NFL star, JJ Watt and his wife, Kealia Watt, have announced their investment in Burnley Football Club recently. Considered to be one of the greatest NFL players of all-time, I’m delighted to welcome JJ and Kealia on this journey with us. Both have formed a real affinity to the Club, the town, and the community, and I’m thrilled to have them with us at Turf Moor this afternoon.
Off the pitch, Friday was a special day as Vincent was inducted into the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame, in recognition of his stellar achievements in his playing career, as well as his charity work off the field.
In doing so, Vincent joins some of the greatest ever players and is so deserving of this accolade. On behalf of everybody at Burnley Football Club, congratulations!
Last Sunday was a momentous day for our women’s team, who played at Turf Moor for the first time in their history. Nearly 3,000 supporters were in attendance on the day to cheer the team on, and your support didn’t go unnoticed. The 2-1 win and goals from Evie Priestley and Courtney Willis topped off a brilliant season for the squad, who finished third in the Northern Premier League. A big well done and I look forward to continuing to take great strides forward next season.
The Championship trophy is with us this afternoon and will be presented to the team after the final whistle. While we hope you all enjoy the celebrations, please be aware that we all have a role to play in keeping each other safe on matchdays, so we remind all supporters that the pitch is for players and stands for spectators.
Now, for the final time this season, thank you for your continued support throughout this campaign Clarets. Enjoy the game and the celebrations both today and at tomorrow’s town centre parade!
Up the Clarets!
Alan
