Good afternoon, welcome to Turf Moor for the East Lancashire Derby against Blackburn Rovers.
We are back on home turf following Tuesday evening’s Carabao Cup win against Crawley Town. Well done to the team, it was great to get such a comprehensive win in the competition and secure our place in the Fourth Round.
Today is derby day and as is the case with local derbies, it is not an average game. It has been some time since both teams have faced each other in the league, the last time being in 2016, and I understand the importance of the fixture to both sets of supporters.
At Burnley FC we want today’s fixture, with all its rivalry, to be enjoyed safely by all in attendance. The derby offers us a fantastic opportunity to showcase Lancashire football, therefore as we have stated building up to the game, we strongly encourage everybody to please adhere to stadium safety regulations. Let’s put the East Lancashire Derby on the map for competitive EFL football and for no other reasons. Today is also Remembrance Sunday and we will be showing our respects ahead of kick-off.
In addition to the screening in the FanZone of the civic service of remembrance, live from the town centre War Memorial at 11am, we are also joined by local veterans, serving personnel and the Royal British Legion, who will be taking part in activities including joining the team captains to lay wreaths and the Last Post will be played ahead of the game.
At the Club we are proud to join the rest of the country in remembering those who have served and sacrificed so much, and we ask all supporters to join us in showing our respects.
Looking forward, the World Cup is only a week away and I want to wish Connor Roberts all the best for the tournament with Wales. Vincent will also be featuring in the BBC’s coverage, joining the punditry team in Qatar. We look forward to watching and supporting both Clarets at home. It’s not long to until the game gets underway, and I want to wish Vincent, his staff and the players the best of luck.
We welcome a sell-out crowd today, I hope you all enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the occasion and together, let’s make it one for our club’s history books.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
