Millie Ravening says she’s delighted with her goalscoring form this season, enhanced by a first hat-trick of the campaign in Burnley FC Women’s 7-0 success at Liverpool Feds Women yesterday.
The creative midfielder, who only turned 21 a few weeks ago, now has 17 goals to her name this term and is embracing the leadership life in Jonathan Morgan’s side.
Speaking to the Club’s media post-match after the win on Merseyside, Ravening discussed the three points, three goals, and her role as vice-captain.
Ravening on her hat-trick:
“I’m just buzzing to get the three goals because it’s meant I’ve upped my tally for this season.
“It was a good performance from the girls all round, and at the moment I’m just happy I’m able to keep scoring.
“They were three different goals – a free-kick, a penalty & a header – but I know I should’ve had a couple more!”
Ravening on targets:
“I’m happy to be getting in the positions to score, and to be taking the chances when they come.
“I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed my football as much as I am doing at the moment, and I just want to win as much as we can as a team.
“On a personal note, at the start of this season I wanted to score more and assist more than I did last season.
“I’m on the right track to meet those two targets, but the hard work will continue from here to make sure I do.”
Ravening on getting a first league win in four:
“It’s good for us to get back to winning ways, especially away from home as well.
“With how we’ve been playing, the girls know that we’re going to get past players and put goals away, but it’s just about all of us working hard together out on the pitch.
“That hard work is a given, but we have to do it as a team.”
Ravening on making dominance count:
“We’ve been on top in games all the way through this season so far, and we all feel that way, but we know we haven’t always shown that in the result or the scoreline come the end of matches.
“When we’re on top, we have to keep up this aggressive momentum against teams and keep putting the ball in the back of the net. We press together, we work hard together, and we know the goals will come if we do that.”
Ravening on enjoying her leadership role:
“I love it here and I love playing with all of the girls because we’re one big team.
“Jonathan and all the staff help us all out in training too, they do so much work with us all throughout the week in training to prepare us for when gameday comes around.
“I’m still young, but I feel I’ve got experience to share with some of the other girls and I appreciate the vice-captain role because it allows me to showcase what I can do on the pitch.”
