Burnley are on the road for the second time this week, travelling up to the North East to face newly-promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon (22nd October) in a 3pm kick-off.
Wednesday night saw the Clarets take a point from a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City down in the Midlands.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson came off the bench to net the opener at St Andrew’s, his first goal since February 2021 and his recovery from injury, before Scott Hogan levelled things up for the hosts.
The Clarets now sit 3rd in the Sky Bet Championship with 26 points from 15 games played, unbeaten in the last 13 (all competitions).

Sunderland
In their first season back as a Championship side having been promoted last term, the North East outfit have had a mixed opening third of the campaign.
Sat 13th with 20 points, Sunderland have won five, drawn five, and lost five. In the opening month of the season, then-boss Alex Neil departed to take the hot seat at Stoke City, and was replaced by Tony Mowbray.
The Black Cats’ recent record reads one win in six, which came last weekend at home to Wigan Athletic where Elliot Embleton & Dennis Cirkin netted second half goals to complete a comeback having trailed at the break.
The Last Time we Met
In league action, the pair haven’t met since Sunderland’s relegation from the top flight in 2016/17.
That season, the side’s met four times – twice in the Premier League & twice in the FA Cup including a replay which Burnley won 2-0 at Turf Moor.
The most recent meeting though came in August 2019 when the Black Cats came to town in the Second Round of the League Cup, running out 3-1 winners after Jay Rodriguez’s first half opener.
Saturday will be a first trip to the Stadium of Light for the Clarets since January 2017.
