Steve Stone’s side travel to Middlesbrough on Friday in the Premier League 2, hoping to bounce back from Monday’s defeat to Crystal Palace.
But Defender Matty Rain, who has been a regular in Stone’s side this season, believes the Clarets’ new-look squad are beginning to gel together and put together impressive performances
Although, the former Liverpool left-back knows his side are in for a tough test, against a Boro side who have won two of their four Pl2 matches, with a draw and one defeat, most recently winning 6-0 on Monday afternoon against local rivals Sunderland.
Rain said: “We will be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Friday, we know it will be a tough game but there was a lot of positives to take from the Palace game which we will look to build on.
“The lads will be expecting a tough game against a good opposition in Middlesbrough, they won 6-0 on Monday, so they will be no pushovers we have to turn up and do what we do best.
“I think we have coped really well with the step up to Cat One so far, obviously with the circumstances it’s not been great, with all the restrictions and ongoing challenges around the programme.
“But you can see as we play together more and more, the performances have started to be better and improve and the team has started to gel.
“All the lads have trained hard and recovered well and we are looking forward to going again on Friday.”
The last time the two sides met was just over a year ago in the Premier League Cup, where Stone’s side drew 1-1.
The behind-closed-doors match kicks off at 2:00pm at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park.
Live updates will be available throughout the match (@ClaretsAcademy), followed by a report and reaction.
