Nick Pope has completed his hat-trick of player-of-the-year awards after receiving his prize from the fans.
The Clarets’ goalkeeper won the 2019/20 awards chosen by the players and the club via supporters’ votes.
And he was also named their top performer last season by the Burnley FC Supporters Groups to become the first recipient of the Alan Beecroft Player of the Year trophy.
The ‘Beeky’ was named in memory of one of the Clarets’ biggest followers and a leading light in the supporters’ groups who died in January following a near two-year battle with MND.
Pope received the trophy in his name from Alan’s wife Georgina at the Barnfield Training Centre after the annual supporters’ presentation night was unable to go ahead as scheduled in May due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“I’d like to thank the supporters for this award, which I know has extra significance this year in being named for the first time in memory of such a big fan in Alan Beecroft,” said the England international, whose performances last season helped the Clarets to a top-10 finish in the Premier League and placed him just one clean sheet behind Manchester City’s Ederson in the contest for the league’s Golden Glove.
“It always means a lot to receive an award from the supporters, who watch us week-in, week-out to make their choices.
“Last season was a successful one for all of us with a top-10 finish and, personally, I was delighted with how it went to finish with 15 clean sheets. One more would have been nice!”
Pope added: “I was lucky enough to receive a couple of other awards at the end of the season, from my team-mates and through the club, and to add this one from yourselves as independent supporter groups is equally valued.
“It’s a shame that we were unable to share the usual presentation night with you as a team due to the lockdown and we continue to miss you at Turf Moor.
“I know it’s tough for you not to be able to come to games and we certainly feel it not having you inside the ground to get behind us.
“We hope it won’t be too long before that changes, but we do appreciate the fact you are still supporting the team and hope you all stay healthy ahead of a return.”
