The Clarets face 13-times Premier League champions Manchester United tonight at Turf Moor.
Burnley picked up their fifth clean sheet of the season in the goalless draw against Watford on Saturday. The Clarets have drawn ten league games this season.
This is Manchester United’s first Premier League game since they beat West Ham United 1-0 at Old Trafford on the 22nd of January.
They were beaten on penalties by Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough on Friday night after a 1-1 draw. Jadon Sancho scored the United goal. The Championship side won the FA Cup tie 8-7 on penalties with Anthony Elanga missing the last spot kick.
Burnley boss Sean Dyche knows it will be a tough fixture.
“You have to earn the right and work very hard against every side in the Premier League, especially the top sides. We’ve done what we do well against those sides and that’s what got us results previously and we will look to do that again.”
Dyche knows United have top class players in their ranks.
“They have some very big players with quality,” he added.
“I thought we performed we pretty well at their place, statistically it was one of our
better performances certainly in terms of chances created.”
Form guide
Burnley are unbeaten in five Premier League games at Turf Moor - they have drawn four of those.
Only Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion have won at Turf Moor in the league this season. However, the 3-1 win over Brentford remains Burnley’s only success this season.
Manchester United have lost twice on the road in the Premier League this season. They were beaten 4-2 at Leicester City and 4-1 at Watford. In addition, they lost 2-1 at Young Boys in the Champions League.
United failed to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2014.
The Reds are through to the last 16 of the Champions League and are set to face Atletico Madrid.
Opposition guide
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left Old Trafford in November after the Reds finished second under the Norwegian last season. They will come into tonight’s game in fourth position.
Ralf Rangnick took over from caretaker boss Michael Carrick in December. The former RB Leipzig manager has been appointed interim manager for the rest of the campaign.
The German used his pre-match press conference to dispel any rumours of a rift between him and England international Jesse Lingard.
"I have a very good relationship with Jesse," he said. "I would have been willing to let him go [to another club] before the situation with Mason Greenwood. "Jesse mentioned some personal issues, but we have to look forward now. We have no problems, me and Jesse."
Full back Diogo Dalot looked back at the game at Old Trafford in December.
“We had a very good game, but we felt the physical part and the intensity they put into the game, especially with long balls and duels in the air,” said Dalot, United won the game 3-1.
“I am sure they will try and do the same [on Tuesday].”
Since Rangnick’s appointment, Dalot has featured in the German’s starting team on a regular basis.
“It has been very good for me to have more game time and more back-to-back games. It brings me more confidence and more rhythm to give everything for the team.”
The visit to Burnley is United’s second of seven February fixtures, but Dalot is relishing the busy schedule.
“It is an exciting few weeks ahead of us now,” he said.
“We are ready for it, and it can be very good if we have a good run of games.
“It is a proper Premier League game. It is going to be a difficult game, we know that Burnley at home are always tough to play, but hopefully we can bring the three points home.”
Match stats
Nick Pope is set to make the 200th league appearance of his career. That includes his loan spells at York City and Bury. The England international has 42 clean sheets in 122 Premier League appearances.
Burnley’s last home win against tonight’s opponents came in August 2009 with Robbie Blake scoring the only goal - the Club’s first ever goal in the Premier League.
If he plays, Aaron Lennon will make his 399th Premier League appearance. Only 39 players have made 400 appearances in the top division since restructuring in 1992.
Josh Brownhill is set to return to the Burnley squad after suspension. He was in the Bristol City side that knocked holders Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup in December 2017.
Manchester United’s defeat at Leicester City in October ended an English league record of 29 games unbeaten away from home.
Five-times Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo will make his first appearance at Turf Moor.
