Youth team set for East Lancashire derby against Rovers

Tony Philliskirk’s side return to league action this weekend, where the young Clarets will host local rivals Blackburn Rovers, in an exciting clash at Leyland.

Philliskirk’s youngsters, who put in an excellent team performance, narrowly missed out on a win in their last league clash against Everton, after conceding two goals in the last five minutes.

But striker Joe McGlynn, who was on the scoresheet last time out, insists the team are eager to bounce back with a positive result this weekend and confessed the lads are more than up for the Lancashire derby.

McGlynn said: “All the boys are excited for the game this weekend against Blackburn, you can tell in training, everyone’s working very hard and wants to be in that squad this weekend.

“We do go into every game with the same mindset, but with-it being Blackburn it adds a little bit more fire and desire to get the three points and get one over on them.

“Obviously all the lads were disappointed with the result against Everton, but after watching it back the next day we all saw how well we played and how much we really deserved to win

“And that has given us a huge confidence boost, especially because it was against one of the best teams in the league.

“On a personal note I was very happy with my performance last time out and the goal as well to go with it.

“Hopefully, I can keep providing performances like this and keep the run of scoring goals to help the team progress and myself.”

Rovers are yet to win a match this season, after four defeats in their opening four fixtures against Everton, Manchester United, Wolves and Liverpool.

The match at Leyland kicks off at 11:00am on Saturday morning, with live updates available on Twitter (@BurnleyOfficial), followed by report and reaction.
