Burnley conceded their first defeat of their pre-season schedule on Saturday afternoon against Stoke City, as Ben Wilmot's first-half goal proved to be the difference in the friendly fixture.

Despite narrowly losing out to the Potters, it was another useful workout for Scott Parker's men, with the majority of the starting line-up playing 90 minutes, after the rest of his side featured in an in-house game at the training ground earlier this morning.

The Clarets started bright and had an early chance with eight minutes on the clock when Jaidon Anthony fired just wide of the target, after breaking through in goal.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead shortly after that, as Wilmot turned the ball home from close range following a corner into the box.

With half-time approaching, the visitors looked to have equalised, only for Hjalmar Ekdal’s strike at the back-post from a corner to ripple the side netting.

Parker’s men started the second-half on the front foot and came close to an equaliser, but Anthony could only guide the ball over the crossbar from Hannibal’s cross.

As the fixture approached the hour mark, Burnley were then reduced to 10 men, after Josh Laurent was shown a second yellow card by referee Steve Martin.

Kyle Walker's and Jacob Bruun Larsen's afternoon came to an end with just over 10 minutes left on the clock being replaced by Joe Westley and Albert Blackie, before Josh Cullen then departed five minutes later for Charlie Veevers.
