Nick Pope is backing the character in the Clarets’ squad to come through and help kick-start their season as the Premier League gets back into full swing.
Burnley lost their opening three league games ahead of the international break, during which Pope made his first Wembley appearance as part of the England team that beat Wales in a friendly.
The goalkeeper has returned to club duty with a third cap in his collection and his focus back on the Clarets.
And he believes Sean Dyche’s men have what it takes to reverse their fortunes and get things moving as they build up to Monday evening’s trip to West Bromwich Albion.
“It’s not the start anyone wants really but that’s where we are and we have to get on with it,” said Pope.
“We’ve got to put it right with our performances in the coming games, starting on Monday.
“We have gone through these spells before where you lose consecutive games and it’s not nice.
“But it’s about the response and having the character to put the performances in to get the points.

“We’ve got good confidence in the group, having been through these runs before, and having good experience is a massive help.
“Fingers crossed we put everything in (on the training ground) this weekend and go again on Monday and get the first points on the board.”
Last season, which started in its normal August slot, the slow-starting Clarets won only three times before November, ahead of a recovery which produced only a second top-10 finish for the club in the Premier League era.
A big part of that success was down to the 15 clean sheets kept by Pope and the Clarets’ defensive unit.
And after enjoying a shut-out for England in the 3-0 victory over Wales, Pope is looking to get his first of the season for Burnley.
“There are still 35 opportunities to get a few more,” he told Clarets+ in the interview above.
“Last season was really good and it’s something we pride ourselves on.
“To get one on the board on Monday and get going again would be most welcome.”
