Goalkeeper Nick Pope discusses his international break with England, the test of facing reigning Premier League champions Manchester City and the remainder of the season.
Pope on his week with England:
“It was a really enjoyable experience. A short camp but good to see the lads that I’d seen in previous camps and good to meet the new lads too.
“An enjoyable environment, always an honour to be called up but nice to be back in the fold and get some minutes as well.
Pope on linking back up with the Clarets:
“It’s the same as always coming back. Normally, we play the last international game on a Tuesday or a Wednesday and come back in on Thursday looking forward to the weekend.
“Refocused and reenergised after a good week away with England, it’s always good to be back in the building with the boys and we’re looking forward to the next game now.”
Pope on the Citizens clash at Turf Moor:
“It’s a big challenge for us. I feel like playing against the top teams, in general, we’ve given a good account of ourselves probably barring Chelsea at home.
“They [the top sides] are the tough challenges of the Premier League and that’s why you want to be in it, going up against top players. It’s a challenge that we’re looking forward to, a home game, and we’ll take it on doing what’s right to have a positive outcome.”
Pope on past experience:
“It can only be a good thing the amount of Premier League games [we’ve been through as a group]. We’ve been in this position before having to dig ourselves out of a bad start and bad positions to get ourselves over the line.
"Collectively, we’ve got a core group who’ve seen this situation before and seen it through to a good outcome.”
Pope on the remainder of the Premier League campaign:
“City’s a massive game for us. We can’t just sit back and write it off, that’s not our style.
“With 11 games to go, it’s not about targeting certain games for us. It’s going into every game, performing that game plan, and putting in good performances to get the results when they come.”
