Burnley Football Club are pleased to have secured the signing of Brazilian full-back Lucas Pires on a four-year deal from Santos for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan with La Liga side Cadiz, becomes Burnley’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
Upon joining the Clarets, Pires said: “It’s incredible for me to be here and playing in England. English football has been a dream for me ever since I was a child, it’s a dream come true.
“I initially heard about the interest towards the end of last season. I was really happy to hear about it and I was quite emotional to be honest about coming here and playing for this Club in England.
“Myself, all my family and everyone back home are extremely excited for me to come and play for Burnley Football Club and I can’t wait now.”
Born in Sao Paulo, the left-back began his youth career with Corinthians, where he spent 13 years in the academy set-up and signed his first professional deal, before joining Santos in the summer of 2021.
After starting out in the U23s set-up for the Brazilian Serie A side, Pires was promoted to the first team which saw him make his professional debut in February 2022 against former club Corinthians.
Pires went on to play over 70 games for Santos across two seasons, before joining Spanish side Cadiz last summer on a season-long loan.
The Brazilian defender scored his first professional goal in October last year in a 3-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid and featured over 20 times across the 2023/24 campaign.
