Clarets midfielder swaps Morecambe for Accrington in loan switch

Clarets midfielder Adam Phillips has moved across Lancashire to join Accrington Stanley on loan.

Phillips has ended a similar spell with Morecambe and now steps up a division to join Stanley’s push for a League One promotion place for the remainder of the season.

“I enjoyed my time at Morecambe and this is a chance now to move up a division and test myself at the this level,” said Phillips.

“I know a few of the lads at Accrington and I’m looking forward to the challenge of being involved there and helping them for the rest of the season.”

Phillips, who joined the Clarets in August, 2019 after ending a spell with Norwich City, impressed in the Under-23s in his first season at Turf Moor.

And the former Liverpool teenager and England youth international then made a major impact at Morecambe in two temporary spells at the Globe Arena.

The 23-year-old scored four times in 11 appearances after joining Morecambe on loan for the second half of last season.

And he then started all bar one of the Shrimps’ games in League Two so far this term, with his 10 goals making him the leading scorer for Derek Adams’ side which currently occupies a play-off place.
