Head Coach Scott Parker celebrated his ‘pride’ in the team after Burnley FC’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Turf Moor secured a return to the Premier League.

Two goals from captain Josh Brownhill ensured the Clarets earned promotion at the first attempt in front of the home fans.

And Parker looked back on the ups and downs of the season, insisting the end rewards were worth the test.

“We knew the challenges, that this was a relentless league,” he said. “It is very challenging, so I’m delighted for everyone at the football club at what we’ve achieved.

“There were some tough moments but they bring out the best in people and we reacted in the right way by becoming stronger as a group. There were of course some hard times but it brought us all closer together and has got us to this point so immensely proud of everyone.

“It is emotional for me because of the pride I have in the group. It feels very different to what I’ve done before, not just the group but the whole football club. When I first walked in there was a warmth, there was a love, a support and this gave me energy as a coach.

“Sometimes it can be a lonely place as a coach but the support I’ve had has coincided with this group of players. There were bumps in the road but that brought us together even more and I’m absolutely buzzing.”

Parker also took the time to thank the fans who played their part in creating a cauldron of noise, cheering the team until the very last moments.

He added: “They were fantastic today and have stood by me and stood by the group.

“They have given us massive support to get us over the line and tonight was evidence of that. That is why we do it – we do it for the fanbase who are the cornerstone of every club. They stay forever and I hope they have a good night and are proud of this group.

“They [the players] give everything for this shirt and that is enough for me. There are moments or mistakes but this group has given everything for the cause this year and wore that shirt with massive pride.”
