Scott Parker gave an honest assessment of Burnley's performance against Sunderland tonight, as the Clarets went down to a heavy 3-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking to the media after seeing his side out-played by the Black Cats throughout the 90 minutes, Parker labelled Burnley's display as 'hugely disappointing'.
DISAPPOINTING DISPLAY
“We were nowhere near it tonight.
“We fell way short with the core basics. We were never in the game in any aspect. We never gave ourselves any chance.
“It’s hugely disappointing. We were very passive. We had plenty of possession but lacked intent.
“We’ve had some positive results lately against good sides - but we were way off it tonight.
“We need to reboot. That’s easy for us to say but we’re running out of time.
“We sit where we sit for a reason but in these moments of adversity, we need to re-group and come back stronger."
LACKING INTENT
“We lacked intent in every phase of the game.
“I didn’t see a team with any real purpose, belief or commitment - and that really disappoints me. They’re traits I stand by so it hurts me.
“We’ve had a couple of performances like this so far this season - it hurts and it’s concerning."
JUST JWP IN JANUARY
“January is a tough window.
“We wanted players in - but there’s loads of variables that didn’t allow us to add more than one player.
“I didn’t want to just bring players in for the sake of it.
"We bought James in, but he's only trained twice, so tonight wasn't the right time to give him his debut.
“We are where we are with the squad.
“But that’s not the reason for tonight’s performance. We let ourselves and the supporters down this evening with our display."
ACCEPTING CRITICISM
“We need to get back to work and reboot.
“We’ve fallen short sometimes this season on quality - but tonight we were miles off the pace and that’s unacceptable.
“It’s a tough place we find ourselves in. No doubt it’s tough for the players too.
“There’ll be fingers pointed at us all tonight and that’s fair."
