Burnley boss Scott Parker had plenty of positives to take from Wednesday's performance and was 'pleased' with the reaction from his side at Molineux despite the Clarets falling to a 2-0 defeat against Wolves.
A brace from Portuguese forward Goncalo Guedes sealed the hosts' place in the third round of the Carabao Cup, but there were five bright debuts on the night for Burnley, with new signings Joe Worrall, Bashir Humphreys and Hannibal Mejbri starting and the academy duo of Tommy McDermott and Will Hugill coming on in the second half.
Speaking post-match in Wolverhampton, Parker said: "First of all, we're disappointed because you don't want to lose football matches and we came here to get a result tonight.
"I asked for a reaction from Saturday's defeat, as it's fair to say we lacked quality at Sunderland and what my expectations are, they weren't there.
"But I thought we got that tonight, I'm immensely proud of what they delivered. Three debuts for the new lads, two academy debuts, some great saves from Vaclav.
"I thought we played some really good football in parts against a top Premier League side, they made 10 changes and had some real quality players come into their side.
"I've always said that in these real moments with little bumps, is when the real character shows and in moments like this, you see what players are about. Overall, I'm really pleased for the lads tonight, and it's something to build on."

Goalkeeper Vaclav Hladký came back into the XI for the visit to Wolves and the 33-year-old made some crucial saves in the first-half to keep the game goalless.
Parker praised the Czech's performance against Gary O'Neil's side: "He was brilliant tonight, brilliant. He pulled off some massive saves and that's the sign of a top goalkeeper.
"He kept us in the game at times with some big saves and I thought overall he was superb."
After handing debuts to the academy pair of McDermott and boyhood Burnley fan Hugill, Parker hailed the duo: "I've lived in those shoes. I remember being 16 at Bury away with Charlton as a young lad.
"They did themselves proud tonight and their families. I'm pleased for them both. The main priority now for us is the weekend."
