Debutant Bashir Humphreys, whilst disappointed with Wednesday night's Carabao Cup exit said that he believes there were positives to take from the game into future fixtures.
Speaking post-match the 21-year-old said: “It’s disappointing, it’s hard to lose at all times but I think it was important for us to show a reaction from the Sunderland game. Obviously, a lot of things have been going on at the Club, a lot of new boys, a lot of boys leaving. So, I think it’s important that now we just start building, start getting together, especially looking towards Saturday. We need to start getting together and pushing on.”
Saturday's 1-0 loss to Sunderland, the first of the Clarets 2024/25 campaign was disappointing, how did Humphreys feel the team reacted to the defeat?
“I think there’s definitely some positives to take, I personally will never be happy walking away from a game and not getting a result. But in terms of positives, the boys showing some character, going into a lot more duels, winning a lot more duels, being a lot braver on the ball and I think we can build from that.”
Having only been with Burnley for a week after recently signing, Humphreys made his debut at Molineux and was pleased to get a full 90 minutes under his belt.
“I’m over the moon! It was a long time coming to get here and I just wanted to get on the pitch, even being on the bench on Saturday was killing me. So, on a personal level it was nice to be out there on the pitch and getting 90 minutes as well.”
With the summer transfer window due to close at the end of the week there's been lots of change for the Clarets, however the defender is happy with the welcome he's received at the Club.
“I’ve loved it so far. I know it’s cliché, but everyone has genuinely been so welcoming. I feel like it’s starting to feel like home only one week in and I think we can definitely build something this year. And moving on into future years for sure.”
Scott Parker's side won't have long to dwell on the result with the East Lancashire Derby next up at Turf Moor on Saturday. How is he feeling about the occasion?
“I’m excited! Ever since the day I got here everyone’s been telling me about it, a lot of my family are from up here as well, so they’ve been telling me about it. I know the importance of it.
“I’ve just been playing for Swansea last year, obviously there was the South Wales derby, so now I’m up here I want to be involved in another derby so I’m excited. Hopefully, we get a win.”
