Head Coach Scott Parker thought his side were worthy winners in their Emirates FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday and praised his team’s efforts to book their place in the fourth round.

The Clarets took the lead through Lyle Foster’s second-half goal, before Royals’ skipper Lewis Wing equalised shortly after to take the cup tie into extra time.

Substitute Zian Flemming’s two goals in the space of nine extra time minutes ensured a place in the next round.

Speaking post-match, Parker said: “It was a deserved victory overall.

“I thought we applied ourselves first class with 11 changes, a couple of full debuts, and players coming into the team who have probably not had a lot of football.

“I thought we started the game electric, we had a real intensity about us. Obviously they get the equaliser, a bit of a mistake from us, but then we had the other gear to go and win the game.”

The Clarets dominated the majority of the game and Parker thought his side’s display was worthy of the win.

“We carved open a lot of chances early on in the first 15 minutes.

“We probably didn’t hit the target enough even though we had some very good chances from some very, very good play.

“They then come back into the game in certain moments, but I thought overall we deserved that goal and went on to win comfortably in the end.”

Academy youngsters Joe Bauress and Tommy McDermott were handed their first starts for the Club while Charlie Veevers and Tom Tweedy were named on the bench.

Parker described the two starters as ‘superb’ with Bauress involved in two of the goals.

“They've come into a team that have helped them through it and I thought they were both superb.

“Full credit to the academy and the boys back at the training ground, who have pushed these boys. They deserved their chance today.

“Of course, you never really know, but I thought both of them were very, very good.”

There was also a debut for January signing Oliver Sonne and the Clarets boss was impressed with his first display in Claret & Blue.

“Oliver had been in with us for a couple of weeks now.

“I thought he showed some real composed moments, attacking threat, and was really solid in a good team performance.”
