Scott Parker said he was 'immensely proud' of his players for digging in to come away with what he described as a massive three points against Norwich on Friday evening.

As the sun set in Lancashire, a dominant first half performance with two goals from Hannibal and Jaidon Anthony saw the Clarets cruise into half-time with the lead before Jack Stacey clawed a goal back for the Canaries in the second half. However, the Burnley boss was happy with his players for their diligence to dig in for the three points.

“We got the job done and I thought we were superb for the majority of the game to be honest with you. For the first 45 minutes I asked the lads came with a real intensity and I understood the dynamics, we’ve probably been on the wrong side of the fixture list, it was such a quick turnaround. What I put on the lads and what I asked from them was a big demand for the first 45 minutes, we were incredible in terms of every phase, attacking, defensively really locked them in, came with real high energy.

“The second half is a different game of football for sure. We don’t have as much control, and they have a bit more control. But in saying that I’m still immensely proud at that moment I get where the lads are a little bit, like I said it’s been a real tough week for us, we’re coming out of a busy, busy week. We practically had half an hour yesterday prepping for this and physically I think you see probably back end a little bit we needed to be diligent, we needed to dig in. We’ve been in this position many times this year when we need to dig, we dig, and it’s a massive three points for us, massive.”

At 2-1 it made for a nervier ending than Parker would have hoped for, but he felt the team did well to dig in and find a way.

“I’m always pleased with that. It’s something that I fundamentally believe in and as a player lived by them and certainly now as a human being live by them. When you need to go to reserves and you need to find a way, we managed to do that really so I’m immensely proud. I think I’ve said that word proud over this season, quite a bit of this group, and these lads I trust them with my life to be quite honest with you. They did very well today, every single one of them.”

Hannibal celebrated his first goal for the Club on the night and Parker has been impressed with the midfielder and his development this campaign.

“I was really happy; he’s got an infectious personality as well as his quality of course. I thought he was outstanding today, he’s come out of the team over the last few weeks, and he’s come back in tonight. He was every bit the heartbeat for us really, along with everyone else, and probably unfair just to highlight Hannibal but he was superb. Well worthy of his start tonight, he came in and left a mark, scored a goal, probably could have had another one, got in some good positions.

“I see someone who is developing for sure, someone who is taking onboard the wording and the coaching that we’re trying to give him. I can see elements that he’s really improving as well.”

Norwich City was the Clarets third game in six days and Parker is relieved to have a week before the team are next in action next Friday at Vicarage Road.

“Yes, it’s what’s needed really, and it was pretty mad how we fell into this week. We drove back from Derby, we had recovery on Wednesday, Thursday is practically 30 minutes on the training pitch, players are still recovering from a tough game at Derby really. It’s been pretty relentless. It’s what we’re used to though I suppose and it’s what these players are used to.

“It’ll be positive for us because we can get some rest into them which is needed, and we can prep a little bit more in detail for what is another big game for us at Watford.
