Head Coach Scott Parker was more than pleased with his team's overall display against Oxford and described the victory as a 'massive three points' following a one-sided first-half.

The Clarets could have been five goals ahead at half-time, following chances from Zian Flemming, Lyle Foster and Josh Laurent, before United defender Michał Helik turned the ball into his own net from Josh Cullen's cross.

Despite awful second-half weather conditions and the game petering out, Parker was delighted to see his side get over the line, as Burnley moved back into the automatic promotion places.

Speaking post-match at Turf Moor, Parker said: “It’s a massive three points for us and I think on another day really it could have been, and probably should have been more.

“Coming in at half-time 1-0 up, I think it's fair to say on the run of play we were well worthy of the lead. We really were brilliant.

“This is an Oxford team who have just lost for the first time in 10 games and I thought we had a real control across the game. We created some really good chances in the first-half. We didn't execute, I think that's fair, but we go in 1-0 up.

“In the second-half, we have some moments to score, before the game goes away a little bit, but overall I'm really pleased with tonight.

"Firstly, I’m delighted for the players after coming out of a tough game at the weekend and it was a quick turnaround with the demands that brings, but I’m more pleased with just how they went about their work.”

There was a debut given to midfielder Jonjo Shelvey late on in the game and Parker was pleased to get the experienced man some minutes following his arrival earlier this month.

The Burnley boss said: “He's still getting there. Obviously he's only been in for three weeks or so and he's getting there for sure. You see his quality now in terms of training and what he possesses. He'll be key for us this year or for the remaining part of this season.

“He brings big experience and he definitely has that quality about him as well, so I’m pleased he got some minutes and he helped us see the game out for us a little bit.”

Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho both missed out on the squad last weekend and again tonight and Parker provided an update on the fitness of the two.

“They’re still struggling. Browny didn't make it and Luca as well. Luca is not that long I don't think, maybe a week or so. We'll see how we go in the next week to see if he makes the weekend, but maybe it comes a bit early. It’s the same with Josh too.”
