Head Coach Scott Parker had plenty of praise for his side, after the Clarets ‘executed the game-plan’ in the 1-0 win over Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round tie.

Burnley secured their place in Monday’s fifth round draw thanks to Marcus Edwards’ debut goal in the second-half at St Mary’s and Parker was more than pleased with his team’s display against the Premier League side.

Speaking post-match in Southampton, Parker said: “I’m really happy with that. The performance, the work the team put in and I thought we were well worthy of the win to be honest.

“We executed the game-plan really well. We had some big chances in the first-half through Jez (Sarmiento) and Benny (Benson) and I think you could see what we were trying to do.

“Then obviously we get the winning goal in the second-half through Marcus (Edwards) and we’re really pleased for him and the team, they were all brilliant today.”

Parker made eight changes from Tuesday night, with Jonjo Shelvey handed a full debut in midfield and a debut given to Edwards in the second-half.

The Burnley boss highlighted the squad rotation paying off and says there are ‘lots of positives’ for him to take away from the cup tie.

“We made changes to the team and that was one of the most pleasing things. Seeing debuts, players playing for the first time in a while and they (Southampton) put their strongest side out.

“There’s loads of positives to take from today’s game. I couldn’t highlight one individual performance, but from Vaclav making big saves, the defence looking solid, subs coming on and making an impact and the boys up top causing problems. Everyone was superb”
