Scott Parker admitted he was ‘pleased overall’ following his side’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on a wet and blustery Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor.
The Clarets went 1-0 down early on through Neco Williams in what turned out to be a close game, after Burnley struck back in the 20th minute through Jaidon Anthony’s third goal of the season.
“I think it was a good performance from us today to be fair and I’m very pleased with fundamentally how we went about it today. Obviously, going down so early, we showed huge character to get back into the game. But not just to get back in the game, we took a real stance in terms of how we showed ourselves today. We showed a different side to us which was very good for a lot of the game, with the ball as well.
“Overall, I’m pleased. Again, we’ve proven that we’re very competitive today and maybe the fine margins, of course they have their chances, I felt we had some big chances as well and probably a point is fair.”
Jaidon Anthony netted the equaliser in the 20th minute, and Head Coach Parker was happy with the reaction his players showed to going a goal down so early on.
“It was a sucker blow for us, coming into the game we wanted to start fast and instantly you get a hook which sends you down a little bit with their goal. I thought our general reaction after that, which we’ve shown over the part of this season really, whether that’s at Old Trafford where we go a couple of goals down and we bounce back. I thought the team showed real character and showed themselves to get back into the game.
“The first half I thought we had a real ascendency and looked the stronger team. Second half we come out of the blocks, have a big chance with Jaidon.
“The longer the game goes on, the dynamics of the game they’re pushing a little bit, they make a lot of subs, and they inject some real speed and quality into their game. At times we had to survive, and I think if there’s one thing what this group can do at certain moments is survive, we’ve seen that over the course of certainly my time here. We managed to do that. Pleased with a valuable point for us and we keep moving forward.”
Boss wants a bouncing Turf Moor tonight!
Parker was also full of praise for the Clarets supporters who played their part in securing the point on the day.
“They [the fans] played a massive part. They came into the stadium today as supporters which I’ve been in stadiums many a time as a young boy supporting a team and two minutes on the clock, your team go down and at that moment I thought they showed a real energy about them. I always say it when you feel that from inside the pitch, it gives you that extra bit and like always this year, it’s not just me standing here as a coach or the team, the fans we’re all in this together. We need to take the rough with the smooth, the bumps along the way but fundamentally we need to stick together, and we need that cohesion because that makes us stronger.”
