Midfielder previews FAWNL Cup tie

Burnley Women face Hull City this afternoon, and the Tigresses are a team that Grace Palmer has fond memories of playing against.

The Clarets played the Yorkshire club on the opening day of the season and Palmer, who was making her debut having signed in the summer, scored twice in a 9-0 rout.

“It was a great day, both for me personally and for the team,” she said.

“Because it was my debut it was always going to be an exciting day, and we put in a really good performance to get the nine goals.

“To get two myself just topped the day off.”

The midfielder has been a regular feature in Rebecca Sawiuk’s team this season, making nine appearances in all competitions.

This afternoon is an FA Women’s National League Cup second round tie and Palmer got her first taste of the competition in the last round against Sutton Coldfield Town.

Burnley’s Northern Premier Division status makes them one of the highest ranked teams in the competition, and Palmer expressed her desire to do well.

“We want to win and be the best in everything we do. Our aim is to make that final and see where it goes from there.

“Everyone was disappointed that we weren’t able to push on with the progress that we’ve been making because of the Halifax postponement last weekend.

“However, that’s given us a bit of extra time off which has allowed people to reset and go again for a hard week of training.”

The players aren’t taking Hull lightly though, with Palmer adding: “Hull are a different team to what we played in the first game.

"They’re learning how to play in this league and adapting to that, and you can see that in some of their recent results.”

Barton Town’s Easy Buy Stadium (DN18 5RL) is the venue for Sunday’s cup tie, with kick-off at 2pm.

Tickets can be purchased online and are priced at £7 for adults, £6 for concessions and £2 for under-16s.

If you can’t be there in person, live updates will be shared on our dedicated women’s social media channels and a match report will follow the final whistle on www.burnleyfootballclub.com.
