Winger pens dual registration terms from Manchester United

Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the arrival of Amelia Oldroyd, who has joined our women’s team from Manchester United until the end of the season.

The exciting midfielder, who has played regularly for the Women’s Super League club’s U21s side this and last season despite still being just 17, has agreed a dual registration deal.

After putting pen to paper, she said: “I’m really excited and can’t wait to get started.

“I wanted a bit of a change and a different environment, and Burnley felt like the right place for me to come to and improve my game.

“It’s a talented bunch of girls here so I know I’ll have to be patient and wait for my opportunity, but everybody’s been really lovely and I’ve been able to settle in well.”

Born in 2007, Oldroyd joined United’s academy at the age of six and has progressed right the way through the Red Devils ranks.

Last season was a particularly successful one for United’s U21s and the player herself, with the team winning the Academy Northern Division and subsequently beating Arsenal in the north v south final to win the national title.

Oldroyd, who describes herself as ‘fiery’ on the pitch, was named Player of the Year by the Red Devils’ coaching team, who cited her want to continually develop and challenge herself as part of their reasoning.

Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk added: “We are delighted to secure Midge’s services.

“We work closely with Manchester United and she’s been in with us for a while to supplement her development.

“She’s really impressed so far and has a huge amount of potential, so I’m looking forward to seeing how Midge develops with us for the rest of this season.”

Oldroyd will wear the number 34 shirt during her time in Lancashire.
