Head of Women’s Football Lola Ogunbote has expressed her happiness with the team’s achievements both on and off the field in 2023/24.
Results wise, the Clarets finished 2nd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League and retained their Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup title.
Regarding the infrastructure, Ogunbote was able to increase and improve the staff team around Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk.
Ahead of the final game of the season against Derby County earlier this month, Ogunbote sat down for an exclusive interview with Clarets+.
When asked whether it was a campaign of progress, she said: “Absolutely – when I think about where we started and where we ended it’s been a fantastic season and there is lots to be proud of.
“We’ll be finishing in the highest league position in our history, so I can’t want more than that.”
Sawiuk has now completed her first season in charge of the Clarets, moving to Lancashire from her previous position as Director of Football at Loughborough University.
“There was a lot of interest in the role and I know that the relationship between myself and the Head Coach is really important,” Ogunbote explained.
“I wanted somebody who knew the league well and had experience of the league above, as well as having a genuine desire to want to work hard and win.
“Bex fits all of those criteria. She’s coached at Tier Three and Tier Two and has worked with the England Talent Pathway, in addition to being a good person with good off pitch values.
“We spent a lot of time trying to get to know each other and learn how the other person works and I’ve got no regrets about the decision to appoint her.”
