Wilson Odobert’s fantastic goal against Fulham in December has been voted the Clarets’ 2023/24 Goal of the Season.
The strike from outside the area put Burnley ahead at Craven Cottage, as the youngster played a neat one-two with Lyle Foster, before curling home the receiving ball into the far corner past a stranded Bernd Leno.
Voted by Clarets supporters across the globe on Burnleyfootballclub.com, the teenager edged the votes in a shortlist of five goals which included Jacob Bruun Larsen’s winner against Luton, Charlie Taylor’s strike against Bournemouth, David Datro Fofana’s rocket at West Ham and Josh Cullen’s volley in the draw against Chelsea. Odobert described the goal which helped the visitors to a 2-0 victory in London, as ‘the most beautiful’ of his career, but also highlighted his first goal for the Clarets against Chelsea at Turf Moor as a standout for himself.
“For me, the goal against Fulham (is my favourite) because it’s one of the most beautiful of my career.
“There’s also the goal against Chelsea, it was special because it was my first league goal at home and in addition it was against Chelsea, a big team, so it’s one of my favourites.”
After making his first Premier League start for the Club against Chelsea and scoring 15 minutes into his full league debut against the Blues, Odobert established himself amongst the starting XI at Turf Moor, finishing the campaign on 33 appearances in all competitions.
Reflecting on his first season with the Clarets, the 19-year-old said: “The first season has been difficult, with ups and downs. Our results were not good, but we had a very good group, we were all together, we never stopped believing it.
"Players and staff understood on a personal level. It was a rather good season, even if everything was not perfect, I tried to give everything throughout the season.”
