Burnley youth team players take up the vaccine offer

Young people aged 16-17 are being encouraged to take up the offer of a Covid-19 vaccine at a pop up site at this weekend’s game against Leeds United at Turf Moor.

Burnley Football Club’s youth players are also taking up the offer on Sunday as part of the club’s support for the vaccination programme.

Young people are being urged to get vaccinated before they head to college next month.

The pop up site will be based beside the Fan Zone and will be open 11am - 1.30pm and after the game between 4pm and 5pm.

Under the current Government guidance, 16-17 year olds are only being offered one dose at the moment.

First and second doses of Pfizer and AZ will also be available to anyone aged 18 and over for. You don’t need an appointment, you can just walk-in.

Jane Scattergood, Covid-19 Vaccination Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria, said: “I would encourage all 16- 17 year olds to come forward for their vaccination and get back to doing what they enjoy – like attending football matches, knowing they have the strongest possible protection as soon as possible. It is also not too late for anyone else to come forward if they have not had their jab yet. Both AZ and Pfizer doses are available at the pop up.

“The Covid vaccines are two-dose vaccines so you must have both doses for maximum benefit and protection to you, your friends, and your family. Remember – it’s a game to two halves – you need both doses. Do the double, be a champion and let’s beat this virus together.”

Doug Metcalfe, Head of Operations, said: "As a Premier League football club and proud of our place in the community we are delighted to be working with the NHS on this important programme to rollout Covid-19 vaccines to our supporters. The rules around football attendance are likely to change in the near future and we would encourage supporters to take the opportunity to get vaccinated on matchday here at Turf Moor".
