Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce that striker Michael Mellon has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor, keeping him at Burnley until the summer of 2025.
Mellon, the son of former Burnley star Micky, joined the Clarets at the beginning of the 2019/20 season from Manchester United as an U16.
The striker, aged 15 at the time, joined Tony Philliskirk’s U18 side for their 2019 summer pre-season tour of Prague, where Mellon scored a late equaliser against Turkish side Altinordu on his first appearance.
Mellon featured several times for the youth team throughout his first season at Turf Moor, scoring a handful of times, before signing a two-year scholarship in July 2020.
The teenager has also featured for his native country Scotland at U16 and U17 level.
Mellon, who has 10 goals already this season for the U23s in all competitions & eight goals for the U18s, said: ‘I’m really happy to get it done and extend my stay at Burnley, I just want to kick on now and keep scoring goals.
“I see my future being at Turf Moor and my ambition now is to work hard and get as close as I can to the first team.”
Sean Dyche added: “We’re pleased with Michael’s progress; he has developed well over the past few seasons and is still developing.
“He’s working with the U23s, we will continue to monitor him and we look forward to working with him.”
