Clarets captain Ben Mee is in the running for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award for December.
Mee earns a nomination on the eight-man shortlist after a superb series of performances in December.
The Clarets’ defender led by example in helping Sean Dyche’s side win three and draw two of their six games during the month to pull clear of the league’s bottom three.
Mee played a leading role as Burnley secured three clean sheets – conceding only one goal from open play in the other three games – and a first win in the Premier League at Arsenal.
And the club captain also scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United as he ended a near six-year wait for a goal at Turf Moor.
“There are some good names in there and it’s nice to be recognised. But I think this is probably more credit to the team and a front for how well the team has been playing,” said Mee.
“There are plenty of players here who could easily have been up for it as well.
“But I suppose being a defender, with the clean sheets we’ve had, and getting a goal has perhaps enhanced that recognition.”
Mee is up against November winner Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United, Aston Villa forward Anwar El Ghazi, Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Liverpool attacker Mo Salah, West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek and Manchester City defender John Stones.
The winner is decided via a selection panel and supporters’ vote, with fans able to cast their vote here. Voting closes at 6pm on Monday 11th January and the winner will be announced on Friday 15th January.
