Clarets’ captain Ben Mee has been named the club’s 2020/21 Professional Footballers' Association Community Champion.
As at all clubs, the Clarets’ squad has had to scale down their personal community-related appearances during the Covid-19 pandemic.
But Mee has remained active in supporting several of the causes and initiatives run by Burnley FC in the Community, as well as being heavily involved in community and inclusion projects on a national scale.

“In what has been a challenging season, Ben has continued to show valuable support for Burnley FC in the Community,” said Dr Sara Ward, Chief Executive Officer of Burnley FC in the Community.
“As ambassador of our Schools' Mental Wellbeing Project he has promoted the project and its benefits on national media platforms.
“He was instrumental in the players’ support for the Burnley Community Kitchen and provision of food parcels and early in the pandemic was one of the players who made phone calls to senior citizens on our Extra Time programme who were shielding at home.
“Ben is a fantastic ambassador for the community who shows an active interest in the charitable work we are carrying out locally and we are proud to have him involved.
“I want to extend my thanks, on behalf of the whole charity team, and congratulate him for receiving this special award.”

Mee said: “I am very proud to have received this award as a reflection of my support for the club’s community department and the outstanding work they do.
“It has been such a testing year for so many, with the Covid pandemic impacting directly on people’s lives and well-being – physically and emotionally.
“The community has played a key role in offering practical help and support and as we hopefully emerge from this crisis will continue to work in and around Burnley to make people’s lives better.
“And hopefully next season a further easing of restrictions will allow us as players to offer more first-hand support to the projects being undertaken.”
