Burnley Football Club can confirm the arrival of Jasmine Matthews, who joins our women’s team squad with immediate effect.
Following the announcement of Yana Daniels’ signing earlier today, centre-back Matthews is the latest player to put pen to paper at Burnley Training Centre.
“I’m really excited,” she said.
“When I spoke to Matt (Beard) and he said he was coming to Burnley, it was a no brainer for me to come too.
“I then spoke to Lola (Ogunbote) about the ambitions of this club and when I came down to see the facilities I was blown away, so I can’t wait to get going.
“I have a lot of experience and ultimately that’s why I came here – to try and push Burnley to where they belong, and I’m here to try and win the league.”
Matthews has more than 150 top-flight appearances to her name, with nine of those coming for Liverpool in the 2024/25 season.
Her career started in 2012 with Bristol City and the Robins finished 2nd in the 2013 WSL table, meaning they qualified for the UEFA Champions League the following campaign.
Matthews made six appearances in Europe’s elite club competition in 2014, and she spent eight years as a Robin before joining Liverpool in 2018.
After a year on Merseyside, she headed back to Bristol before linking up with Matt Beard back at Liverpool ahead of the 2021/22 Championship season.
The 32-year-old scored three times from defence as the Reds won promotion, and Matthews went on to establish herself as a regular in Beard’s line-ups.
