Zian Flemming bagged his eighth Premier League goal of the season, but Scott Parker’s side fell to defeat against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Flemming opened the scoring on the hour following a well-worked move from the visitors, only for two goals in five minutes from Josh King and Harry Wilson, and a late Raul Jimènez penalty - which resulted in Josh Laurent receiving his marching orders - handing the Whites a 3-1 win at Craven Cottage.

On a sun-drenched afternoon in the capital, it was Burnley who created the first chance of note inside seven minutes. Jaidon Anthony teed up Zian Flemming eight-yards out, but his goal-bound strike was diverted to safety by Calvin Bassey’s arm. VAR had a quick look and decided no penalty, deeming it ‘hit the Fulham defender’s supporting arm as he attempted to block the shot’.

Fulham’s first foray into a dangerous area arrived on the quarter hour mark, Rodrigo Muniz volleying over from the edge of the box.

Burnley were forced into a change moments later, when Hannibal went down clutching the back of his right hamstring, and was replaced by Lesley Ugochukwu.

Fulham went close again midway through the half, when Harry Wilson’s stinging long-range drive flew high and wide, with Dúbravka at full stretch.

Soon after, at the other end, Quilindschy Hartman’s teasing cross into the six-yard box found Flemming, whose diving header was well saved by Bernd Leno, before Dúbravka was well-positioned to parry Wilson’s strike out of danger as Fulham looked to up the ante.

Chances were at a premium for the remainder of the half, as the teams headed into the break goalless.

Fulham started the second period on top, Oscar Bobb’s low prod kept out expertly by Dúbravka – before the Clarets keeper had to be at his agile best again moments later to save from Josh King, with Munoz’s follow-up falling wide with the goal gaping.

Muniz has another chance shortly before the hour mark, this time heading a yard or so wide with a free header from just outside the six-yard box.

Despite those chances, it was Burnley who opened the scoring on 60 minutes, with Flemming in the right place at the right time to smash the visitors in front.

A well-worked move down the left involving Hartman and Anthony eventually resulted in the latter feeding Lyle Foster on the right flank and his first time ball across goal found the unmarked Flemming, who fired into the net from close range.

It was a superbly worked goal, that sent the away section at the Cottage into raptures.

The lead lasted just eight minutes though, when a rare mistake from Dúbravka saw the ball drop at the feet of King inside the box, and he did the rest, slotting into on empty net.

That goal appeared to knock Burnley’s confidence – and they found themselves 2-1 down five minutes later, when Wilson cut in from the right-hand side and buried a low drive past Dúbravka.

Josh Laurent thought he’d equalised seconds later, but Timothy Castagne’s trailing leg diverted the ball over, before Anthony’s low drive was held by Leno.

Marcus Edwards and Ashley Barnes entered the fray soon after, and moments later, Hartman’s stinging low drive was tipped inches wide by Leno – a quite superb save from the Fulham stopper.

Despite Parker’s side continuing to search for a leveller in the time that remained, it was Fulham who added the final goal of the afternoon in stoppage time, when Laurent saw red for a foul on Jimènez inside the box and the Mexican scored from spot to make it 3-1 and leave the Clarets nine points adrift of safety with seven fixtures to play.
