Second-half goals from Jeremy Sarmiento and CJ Egan-Riley saw Burnley secure a third consecutive win and a fourth straight clean sheet, as the Clarets defeated Coventry City on Tuesday night.
Following a dominant first-half, Sarmiento opened the scoring just a minute into the second-half with a close range effort, before Egan-Riley chipped home his first senior career goal to ensure the points remained at Turf Moor.
Head Coach Scott Parker named two changes from the side that beat Bristol City on the weekend, with Jeremy Sarmiento and Josh Laurent coming into the XI for Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho.
There were no real chances for either side in the opening 15 minutes, with the Clarets enjoying plenty of possession and looking to carve a way through the Sky Blues defence.
Jaidon Anthony was looking lively down the right wing, beating Jay Dasilva on a couple of occasions and looking to cut inside and get a shot off, but the City defence were standing strong to keep the danger away from goal.
The visitors did have the ball in the back of the net just before the half-hour mark in what was a quiet first half, as Norman Bassette raced through on goal one-on-one and stabbed the ball in, although linesman Alex James had flagged for a clear offside well before the Belgian struck.
Burnley were knocking on the door and came close to opening the scoring with half-time approaching, but Anthony’s effort from close range was blocked by the legs of City skipper Ben Sheaf.
Parker’s men dominated the first 45, but with limited clear-cut chances for both teams, the two side’s went into the break goalless.
However, the hosts’ pressure paid off just a minute into the second-half, as Sarmiento latched onto Connor Roberts’ cut-back into the area and fired home past Brad Collins to put Burnley ahead.
The hour mark saw City’s first effort on target, as Victor Torp darted towards the area with Roberts breathing down his neck. The Dane fired at goal only for Trafford to be equal to it.
After a roll of the dice and triple substitution from City, Burnley then made their first change of the night with just over 20 minutes left to play, as Sarmiento made way for Koleosho.
There was a late scare with the final 10 minutes approaching, as Coventry sub Mason-Clark connected onto Rudoni's cross with an acrobatic effort, only to be flagged for offside.
But all three points were secured just moments later, as Egan-Riley picked up a loose ball from a corner and drifted it towards the back post. It ended up floating over the head of Collins into the back of the net for his first ever competitive goal in a Burnley shirt.
The result saw Burnley secure another clean sheet and seal a third consecutive victory, with Parker's side now set to travel to Stoke City on Saturday.
