Arsenal cemented their position at the summit of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor.

Goals from Viktor Gyokeres, from a trademark Gunners set-piece, and a Declan Rice header put the visitors in the ascendancy in the first half.

Scott Parker's side improved after the break, playing more aggressively and on the front foot, but ultimately it was Mikel Arteta's men who ran out worthy winners, as their fine start to the campaign continued.

Parker made just the one change to the side that defeated Wolves last weekend, with Josh Laurent coming into the XI for Jacob Bruun Larsen.

Striker Lyle Foster, who bagged the winner last Sunday at Molineux, missed out through illness, with Ashley Barnes coming onto the bench.

After an even opening on a crisp Lancashire afternoon, the Gunners bagged the opener with 13 minutes on the clock - and it was another set-piece goal for Arteta’s men.

Rice’s in-swinging corner reached Gabriel at the back-post, with the defender steering it into the path of Gyokeres to head home unmarked from close range.

Ten minutes later the visitors had another opportunity, as Gyokeres turned provider and slipped a well-timed through ball into the path of Bukayo Saka, who only had Martin Dúbravka to beat, but the Slovakian got down low to keep out the forward with a smart stop.

A very similar scenario was repeated just moments later, when Saka forced Dúbravka into action once again, this time with an excellent one-handed stop, before Quilindschy Hartman then blocked Leandro Trossard’s follow-up effort on the line.

Arsenal’s momentum didn’t stop there though, as the Gunners did grab their second a few minutes after the half-hour mark, when a quick counter-attack saw Trossard latch onto Gyokeres’ pass, before breaking down the left to pick out Rice inside the area, who planted a header into the bottom corner to double the lead.

The final chance of a lively first-half fell to Trossard, after Martin Zubimendi hooked a ball into the area from another set-piece, but Dúbravka was there to gather the danger.

With no real action for other side to report in the opening 15 minutes of the second-half, Burnley made a double change on the hour mark.

Bruun Larsen and Loum Tchaouna replaced Jaidon Anthony and Lesley Ugochukwu, as the Clarets searched for a way back into it.

There was half an opportunity for Bruun Larsen just a few minutes after coming on, as the Dane raced into the area, but William Saliba was there to deny any effort towards goal.

A glorious chance then fell Florentino’s way, after Maxime Esteve met a cross at the back-post, with his header landing on the head of the Portuguese midfielder, but he could only guide his header off the crossbar.

Parker then turned to his bench for a second time in the game, as Zian Flemming and Laurent made way for Armando Broja and Hannibal.

Burnley continued to ask questions of the Gunners in the closing stages, with sub Marcus Edwards hitting the post from a direct free-kick late on, but despite a courageous performance from Parker's men in the second half, it ended 2-0 to the visitors.
