Zian Flemming wrote his name in the Burnley history books, after his header saw the Clarets claim all three points in the East Lancashire Derby at Ewood Park.

The winning and only goal came with an hour played, as Flemming met Bashir Humphreys’ pinpoint cross into the area and crashed home what turned out to be the winning goal.

The victory sees Burnley extend their unbeaten run against Rovers to 11 matches and a fifth straight win at Ewood Park in all competitions.

Scott Parker made three changes from the side that played on Wednesday, with Josh Laurent, Humphreys and Flemming all coming back into the side.

It was a cagey start in the opening stages of the derby, with both sides trying to get into the rhythm of it.

The Clarets had a dominant spell of possession midway through the first-half, with the visitors enjoying the ball for around five minutes and looking for a way through.

Neither side had any real effort on goal though, until Amario Cozier-Duberry saw his stinging low effort from outside the area deflect wide for a corner 10 minutes before the break.

Chances were limited for both teams and with neither side able to break through, the half-time score was goalless.

Early into the second-half there were appeals from the Clarets after Flemming was dragged down inside the area by Danny Batth, but referee Andrew Kitchen waved away the appeals.

However, as the game reached the hour mark, Burnley found their breakthrough as Humphrey’s whipped a cross into the box for Flemming to crash home past Aynsley Pears.

Rovers looked to reply 10 minutes later when Sondre Tronstad unleashed an effort from the edge of the area, but the captain's strike could only deflect wide of the post.

The Clarets then came close to a second goal of the afternoon when Jaidon Anthony's swinging strike from inside the box was palmed away by Pears.

Parker turned to his bench with just over 10 minutes left on the clock, as Lyle Foster replaced Sarmiento in attack.

Despite a spell of late pressure from the hosts to nick an equaliser, the Clarets managed to ensure the ball stayed out the area and secure a 17th clean sheet of the campaign.
