Head Coach Scott Parker said he was 'delighted' to come away with three points from Ewood Park and praised his side for the way they handled the occasion.

The Clarets secured a fifth win in a row at Blackburn through Zian Flemming's second-half thunderous header, with the visitors then putting in another solid defensive display to ensure a 17th clean sheet of the campaign.

Speaking post-match, Parker said: “Having not been here long, I quickly realised when I first came in the majority of the topic of conversation was this game. I experienced it very early on with the home game and I certainly experienced it today.

“From the minute we walked into the stadium, it was a hostile place with an intense atmosphere which local derbies bring. I’m delighted we’ve managed to seal the three points and walk out of here with them."

Parker added: “I’m really pleased with the way they handled it. I explained to the players before the game and over the last couple of games, I’ve played in many a derby and they do bring a different game.

"I didn’t expect the game to look any different to how it looked today. I always felt it was going to be a scrappy game just from the sheer emotion of what the game brings.

“I needed the players to show their calm heads while showing their quality in certain moments, manage the game, and that's exactly what they did."

The result saw Burnley seal a fourth consecutive clean sheet and a 17th of the season, with Parker describing his team's efforts as 'sensational' following another defensive masterclass.

“What this team has done defensively this year has been nothing short of sensational. I get that the defensive side of the game is probably not the most glamorous, but I’ve been around it for a long time and I realise it’s the absolute bedrock and foundation of any team.

“I’ve said it many a time, this team has got traits in it that they really want to defend the goal. It’s a badge of honour for us and we come away from another away game with a clean sheet. That gives us a foundation to win games.

“It was a fine margin game and the thing that got us the win was a clean sheet.”
