Clarets travel to Wales to face the Swans

Scott Parker's side head into their 38th Sky Bet Championship fixture of the season on Saturday, as the Clarets take on Swansea City at the Swansea.com stadium.

Burnley travel to Wales in fine form on a 24 match unbeaten run in the league, which has seen Parker's side score 11 goals in their last four Championship games.

A victory for the Clarets against City would lift the visitors into 2nd place, with Sheffield United set to play on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday's opponents Swansea are currently 16th in the league table and head into the weekend off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Watford on Wednesday night.

The opposition

After almost dropping out of the Football League and the fourth tier in 2003, Swansea went on to well and truly climb the ladder, after achieving three promotions in seven seasons, which saw the Welsh side reach the Premier League in 2011.

Brendan Rodgers ensured safety in the Swans' first season in the top-flight, before Michael Laudrup took charge ahead of the 2012/13 season and guided City to a 9th place finish as well as winning the League Cup, which saw Swansea qualify for the UEFA Europa League for the following campaign.

However, that memorable seven-year spell in the Premier League, which included two top-10 finishes, came to an end in 2018 when City were relegated back to the Championship after finishing 18th.

Following a disappointing campaign upon return to the second tier, Swansea went on to finish in the play-offs two years running in 2019/20 and 2020/21, with the latter season seeing City reach the play-off final, but eventually losing out to Brentford at Wembley.

That turned out to be their highest finish since returning to the Championship, with the Welsh club not challenging for promotion back to the Premier League since.

Former boss Luke Williams took charge at the beginning of 2024 and after ensuring Championship football for another season following a difficult campaign last year, the Swans are now searching for another permanent boss and sat in 16th position.

In the home dugout

Former Notts County, Bradford City and Luton Town defender Alan Sheehan began his coaching career in January 2022. Following his recent retirement, he returned to the Hatters as a first team coach under then boss Nathan Jones.

After Jones' departure from Kenilworth Road in November that year, he was followed by Sheehan, who joined the Welsh manager at Southampton in a similar first team coach role at St Mary's.

Following a brief three-month spell with the Saints, Sheehan was appointed as an Assistant Head Coach at Swansea City in the summer of 2023 and when Michael Duff departed in December 2023, the Irishman was appointed Caretaker Head Coach of City.

Luke Williams took charge of the Swans from January 2024, with Sheehan working as an Assistant Coach, before the former defender was appointed as caretaker boss once again last month following Williams' dismissal.

"They (Swansea) have definitely changed a little bit in terms of the way they play and the way they go about things. I think there's probably been a bit of a shift, there's not a massive volume of games to go on, but there are some clear differences.

"But as always, we'll try and prep to the best we can. And again, we just need to bring the best version of ourselves at the weekend to get a result."
