Clarets head to the North East to face the Magpies

Burnley are back on the road this weekend as Scott Parker's men travel North to take on Newcastle United at St James' Park in the Premier League.

The Clarets head to Newcastle looking for a response, after Wednesday night's defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Prior to Saturday's trip, Parker's side currently sit 19th in the league table, but victory in the North East would move the Clarets closer to climbing out of the relegation zone.

This weekend's hosts head into the clash unbeaten in their last seven matches at home in all competitions, with Eddie Howe's men sat 12th in the Premier League table.

The opposition

After a mixed start to the season, Newcastle have shown real glimpses of promise with some impressive results, but there has been a slight sprinkle of inconsistency.

Under Eddie Howe, the Magpies have been competing in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League, which has seen United play 21 games already in the 2025/26 campaign prior to this weekend.

After starting the season with goalless draws against Aston Villa and Leeds United either side of a late defeat to Liverpool, Newcastle's first win of the campaign eventually came following the September international break against Wolves.

However, an opening Champions League defeat to Barcelona and another goalless draw with AFC Bournemouth halted the Magpies from gaining any real momentum.

Despite responding to those two results with a convincing Carabao Cup win over Bradford City, the Gunners claimed all three points at St James' Park just a few days later, in what was turning out to be a sticky spell for Howe's men.

A European win against Union St.Gilloise followed that though, with the Geordies then sparking an impressive run, which saw six wins from eight games in all competitions.

Defeat to Brentford before the November international break then confirmed back-to-back league defeats, after losing against West Ham the week before, but a stand-out display against Manchester City following the break saw United return to winning ways in style at St James' Park.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in their last three Premier League games heading into this weekend, after picking up a win at Everton last Saturday and a draw with Spurs most recently on Tuesday night.
