The opposition
Millwall are in their eighth consecutive season in the Sky Bet Championship having established themselves in the second tier, following promotion from League One in 2017.
The Lions have spent all their time between the third and second tier across the last 34 years, after last featuring in the top-flight in 1990.
After a lengthy spell in ‘Division Two’, promotion arrived in 2001 and Millwall spent five years in ‘Division One’, before the London side were relegated to the then newly-formed League One in 2006.
Millwall returned to the Championship at their fourth attempt in 2010, before dropping down once again to the third tier in 2015.
Following a failed play-off attempt on their first campaign back in League One, the Lions achieved promotion the following season at Wembley via the play-offs with a win over Bradford City in May 2017.
They have recorded 8th place finishes on three occasions since returning to the Championship, narrowly missing out on the play-off places, whilst only finishing in the bottom half of the table twice (21st & 13th) in 2019 and last season respectively.
Neil Harris’ side have started the 2024/25 campaign pretty well, sitting in 10th place, just three points off the play-off places.

In the dugout
A legend as a player at the Den, Neil Harris started his coaching career in a caretaker manager role for three games in December 2013, shortly after retiring as a player, before Ian Holloway was appointed boss in January of the New Year.
Holloway was in charge for just over a year, before Harris was named as Millwall’s permanent manager in March 2015, as the Lions were relegated to League One.
In his first full season in charge, Harris guided the London side to the play-off final at Wembley following a 4th place finish, but fell to defeat against the Tykes.
However, promotion the following campaign via the play-offs at Wembley against Bradford City saw the Lions back in the Championship in 2017.
The former Millwall striker resigned as boss in October 2019, before joining Cardiff City as manager a month later, but just over a year after moving to Wales, Harris was dismissed from the Bluebirds, after six straight defeats.
Following 12 months without a managerial job, Harris was appointed manager of League One side Gillingham, but his first season ended in relegation to the fourth tier.
Harris departed the Gills in October of 2023, but was back in work two months later, after arriving at Cambridge United as Head Coach.
The former Millwall man only spent two months with the U’s in League Two, before re-joining the Lions as manager in February of this year.

What Scott Parker said
“This will be a tough game. It’s a tough place to go, it’s a certain style in which they play, so there’s a big test ahead of this young team at the weekend.
“In saying that, we’re on a good run and we’re in a good place. We’ve got the quality to go to Millwall and cause them massive problems as well.
“We need to have a mindset going into the game of what we’re going to face and the challenges we’re going to face, but also understanding where we can bring our quality and cause them problems.
“This is a tough environment to go to. Some may see it as tough, some may see it as a great place to go and a great challenge.
“We will have our away fans there who have been nothing short of incredible for us this year. They’ve given us every bit of fighting spirit and desire that we need. Again, I have no doubt they will be a driving force for us at the weekend.”
