Burnley begin their 2026/27 season on Saturday afternoon, as Nicky Hayen’s side host Notts County in the Carabao Cup First Round.

The Clarets head into the cup tie after concluding their pre-season schedule last weekend against Torino.

It will be a first meeting between the two sides in over 25 years, with former Claret legend Martin Paterson the current boss of the Magpies.

County arrive in Lancashire after winning promotion to Sky Bet League One last season via the play-offs and gearing up for a campaign back in the third tier.

Notts County - ones to watch

Jacob Bedeau

Central-defender Jacob Bedeau, who spent a season at Turf Moor with the U21s during the 2021/22 campaign, has been at Meadow Lane since the summer of 2024.

Bedeau has been a key figure for County since his arrival from Morecambe, playing over 100 games for the Nottingham outfit in the last two campaigns, where he helped Martin Paterson’s side secure promotion via the play-offs last season.

Now 26-years-old, the centre-back is gearing up for his third year with County and will be looking to add to his 211 senior appearances.

Ollie Cooper

New signing Ollie Cooper put pen-to-paper at Meadow Lane earlier this week, joining on a season-long loan deal from Swansea City.

The Wales international has over 100 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship and arrives in Nottingham with a wealth of experience.

Cooper spent time on loan in Sky Bet League One last season with Wigan Athletic and will now spend the upcoming campaign with the Magpies.

Jodi Jones

Forward Jodi Jones is heading into his fifth season with the Magpies, after joining the club initially on loan in January 2023.

After helping County get promoted to League Two in his first campaign, Jones then earnt his second promotion with the club last term, after Paterson’s side beat Salford City at Wembley in the play-off final to reach League One.

With over 100 appearances and 22 goals for the Nottinghamshire side, Jones is one of the longest-serving players and a firm fan favourite at Meadow Lane.
