Left-back Ian Maatsen was on target twice in Burnley's win against Swansea City on Monday.

The Dutchman was delighted with his goals and the team's overall performance against tough opposition in the form of the The Swans.

“It was a tough game. I’m happy to score two goals and help the team. It was a good team performance today, away from home again, very important - so let’s go on a run again.”

The brace was the first career double for the defender, which he was happy to achieve.

“I’m very happy to score, it’s been a while again! Good two goals and it gives me the belief to go even more and see if I can score more goals this season.”

The game took a different turn to the reverse fixture in October, in which the Clarets ran out winners.

“Yes, because they were on us [Swansea]. It was 4-0 the first game at home, but we came here, it was a far journey. We didn’t have a lot of fans with us but still it was a tough game to play with. They are a good side, but I think we were better than them, so it was really good.”

Maatsen put the league leaders ahead with a two goal cushion, before Ollie Cooper pulled one back for Swansea in the 26th minute - and in doing so gave the home crowd at the Swansea.com Stadium a mighty boost.

“It was a very good job, because when they have momentum, you have to be smart on the ball to make them slow down the game and give it in our favour, and for certain moments we did it very good and that’s why we got the three points.”

Looking ahead, Burnley are next in action next Saturday away to AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup Third Round, with Maatsen relishing the prospect of visiting the Premier League opposition.

“It’s another game to improve as a team. Let’s see what we can do there and surprise them as well. Any team have to look out for us, they can see us today and in other games, so yes we’ll be ready for them.”
