Claret chief praises his side after securing sixth consecutive victory

Manager Vincent Kompany admitted he was 'proud' of his team, as the Clarets secured a sixth Sky Bet Championship win in a row after beating Swansea City 2-1 on Monday afternoon.

Ian Maatsen's first half double proved to be the difference in Wales against a City side that Kompany described as 'tough opposition'.

The Burnley boss believed it was a difficult task to get over the line against the hosts, but was pleased with how his men dug in after a busy period of three matches in six days.

Post-match, Kompany said: “It was like a basketball game at times, playing in quarters. 15 minutes we were the better team, the next 15 minutes they were the better team.

“It was a really tough game for us, we started extremely well and then we struggled for around 20 minutes in the first half, but I thought the second half was pretty even from both sides.

“They’re a hard side to face, they like to press and get in your face, credit to Swansea and their coaches, they switch it up if it’s not working, they did that again today.

“At 2-1 it looked like it was going to be a tough day for us, but as they always do, they always react well those boys and in the second half I think we evened it out."

Kompany added: “We created good chances, Browny had one, then Jay Rod too, which could have just put the game a little bit out of reach.

“But I’m really proud of the team, the performance, the display, and the way we went on to win and come home with the points, after a really busy period too.”

Maatsen took his tally up to four for the season with an eye-catching brace at the SwanseaCity.com stadium and Kompany has been impressed with the youngster's performances this campaign.

“His first one was hit so well; the way he took it he has to take credit for that.

“Then the second one just travelled, it just kept going and the goalkeeper just couldn’t get a hand to it.

“I think if you compared this season to any other season Ian has played, he has got two goals and two assists across the year.

“This season already he has four goals and four assists already, he’s doing really well already and for a full-back it’s not a given.

“It’s two goals for Ian today, it was one for Josh on Friday, we wanted the goals spread out and hopefully it’s someone else on the weekend.” Said Kompany.
