Defender Luke McNally believes he's 'benefitting and developing' from his current loan spell at Stoke City with the centre-back enjoying his time at the Bet365 Stadium.
The Irishman joined the Potters on loan in August and has featured in 26 games in all competitions becoming a mainstay in the Stoke defence.
Speaking to Burnleyfootballclub.com, McNally discussed how the first half of the 2023/24 season has gone for the 24-year-old and the benefit of experiencing 'both sides of football'. McNally said: "I'm really enjoying it here. We’ve just had the new manager Steven Schumacher come in and to be fair we’ve been playing better football.
"I think we should be higher up the league than what we are really but it’s a really good experience overall for me.
“The Championship is a good level and I think it’s part of my development just to play as many games as I can and try improve as a player.
“That’s been the main thing for me and I’m enjoying it and I'm really benefiting & developing from it so far.
“The funny thing of the Championship is that you can go on a run of a few wins and you shoot up the table but we’re playing better and hopefully we can pick up a few results over the next few weeks and see where it leaves us."
The defender added: “It’s the other side of football really, I’ve had a taste of two sides of it. Like last season at Coventry, we were winning a lot of games and flying towards the top.
“We probably aren’t winning as many games as we would have liked to be here so I think personally from a learning outcome, you actually learn more about yourself.
“Coming off the back of a couple of results or performances that didn’t go as well as you’d have liked can actually help you learn more about yourself than say for example winning week in week out."
October saw McNally score his first goal for City in a 2-1 victory over Sunderland and the centre-back says there is 'no better feeling' than scoring.
“I didn’t score last season so I was kind of waiting to hit the back of the net, so it’s great to have got that first goal and we won that day against Sunderland.
“It’s always nice to score, whatever the position you are in and I would say there’s still no better feeling than the ball hitting the back of the net. I was buzzing.
“I've got my head on a good few this year, just some of them haven't dropped I’m so hoping to get another one soon."
With the recent turn of the new year, McNally insists the aim for him this year is to just keep racking up the games & minutes to keep improving whilst picking up points for the Potters.
“I think every game you have to just do your best. I'm trying to rack up as many games I can, I think to be playing, obviously the majority of the season has been a good achievement for me as well.
"We just need to get a few results and think if the results come, the gap gets very small all of a sudden.
"We're still positive in there and we're hoping for a few good results over the next month or two and see where it leaves us."
