Josh Laurent said he was feeling unbelievable following Burnley's 2-0 win over former club Stoke City on Saturday.
Full of praise for his teammates and everyone involved, the 29-year-old felt it was a real team effort and a great way to top off a three game week.
“I thought it was unbelievable. Four wins on the bounce, it was a big week, we wanted nine points in a week, and we got that, so credit to everyone involved, the lads, my teammates, the coaching staff, the fans, everyone. It was a joint effort, and I hope everyone enjoys it.”
Scott Parker's men didn't have too many chances in the first 45 but were called into action to stop the home side going ahead, with big blocks from James Trafford and CJ Egan-Riley. What did Laurent feel changed in the livelier second half?
“I think we started the game, the first half an hour, decent. They gave us a good game, they’re a good team. We spoke about it at half-time and fixed a few things, we said lets over run these, we sort of just kicked up a notch, were more intense and stuck to the game plan. As I say my teammates, the coaching staff, everyone involved was unbelievable today.”
The former Stoke man played a part in the first goal assisting Jay Rodriguez and he enjoyed celebrating in front of the travelling Clarets.
“Yes, it's nothing against my former Club. Obviously, every time I put on this shirt, I want to win for this football club, and I want to do well. I can’t take credit for that! The coaching staff, all the players, Connor’s ball was unbelievable and Jay being in the right place at the right time, we always carry out the plan and try to do it to the best of our ability.
“It was a big team effort."
It has been a busy week of Sky Bet Championship action for the Clarets and Laurent is aware just how tough securing a nine point week can be.
“Momentum’s a big thing especially in this league, it’s a tough league to get out of. Wins like this is what it means, it’s a big step in the right direction. But we’ve got to keep improving, we enjoy tonight and then get back to work as soon as possible to keep nudging along and keep improving onto the next game.”
The win also saw the visitors notch up a fifth consecutive clean sheet, the first time Burnley have managed that since 1980.
“Yes, fair play again to the coaching staff but my teammates too, the work they put in for each other. There were some big blocks today from Maxi, CJ, Bash, the back four, back five.
“The Gaffer always says it’s our base and we work from it. My teammates were unbelievable.”
With the recent run of good form Laurent believes the consistency shown by the team will only help with the side's onward trajectory.
“I think we all knew the problems that were there a few weeks ago and we’ve been trying to work hard at it and nudging along. I think everyone can see we’re getting more and more dangerous. I believe soon that we are going to hurt someone three or four nil. But right now, we’re a well-oiled machine and keep turning out wins, and that’s what it's all about in this league. It’s a massive thing consistency, so we’re back to work as soon as possible to keep nudging in the right direction.”
Finally, whilst a three game week is busy for the players and staff, Laurent appreciates its a big ask for the Clarets fans too.
“They were so loud, backing us all the way. I heard them backing me as well so I’m very thankful. It’s not easy going home and away each week and I’m happy that we can repay them. It’s been a huge Club effort this week and long may it continue.”
